Marine Deisel Transmission Repair

Repairing marine diesel transmissions involves addressing issues with the gearbox and associated components that facilitate the transfer of power from the engine to the propeller shaft. Here’s an overview of our process:

Before any repair work can begin, it’s essential to diagnose the problem accurately. This may involve inspecting the transmission system, checking for leaks, abnormal noises, or any other signs of malfunction. Diagnostic tools such as pressure gauges and electronic diagnostic equipment may be used to identify issues.

Once the problem is identified, the transmission may need to be disassembled to access the faulty components. This typically involves draining the transmission fluid, removing the housing, and disassembling the internal gears and components.

All components, including gears, bearings, seals, and clutch plates, need to be thoroughly inspected for wear, damage, or other issues that may be causing the problem. In some cases, components may need to be cleaned or replaced.

Depending on the extent of the damage or wear, components may either be repaired or replaced. Common repairs include re-machining gears, replacing worn bearings, or rebuilding clutch assemblies. Seals and gaskets should also be replaced as part of the repair process.

Once all necessary repairs or replacements are completed, the transmission is reassembled following the manufacturer’s specifications. This involves carefully fitting the gears, bearings, and other components back into the housing and ensuring everything is properly aligned.

After reassembly, the transmission fluid is refilled to the correct level, and the system is tested to ensure proper operation. This may involve running the engine at various speeds to check for abnormal noises, vibrations, or other issues.

Proper alignment between the engine, transmission, and propeller shaft is crucial for efficient and smooth operation. If the alignment is found to be off during testing, adjustments may need to be made to ensure everything is properly aligned.

Once the repair work is completed, the transmission undergoes a final inspection to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Sea trials may also be conducted to test the transmission under real-world conditions and verify that the problem has been resolved.
